Words of Salvation

New Jerusalem translation, much better. 

This is another promise of God which I have made mine. It’s a part of my treasure, worth more than gold. 

I have actually seen this promise of God in action, much like Moses saw it when he delivered Israel from the hands of Pharaoh. 

I use it to rest in God when times are hard and I find myself surrounded by enemies who wish my destruction. 

The Magnificat is another prayer I have in my treasures. 

Psalms 91

You who live in the secret place of Elyon, spend your nights in the shelter of Shaddai, saying to Yahweh, 'My refuge, my fortress, my God in whom I trust!'

He rescues you from the snare of the fowler set on destruction; he covers you with his pinions, you find shelter under his wings. His constancy is shield and protection.

You need not fear the terrors of night, the arrow that flies in the daytime, the plague that stalks in the darkness, the scourge that wreaks havoc at high noon.

Though a thousand fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, you yourself will remain unscathed.

You have only to keep your eyes open to see how the wicked are repaid, you who say, 'Yahweh my refuge!' and make Elyon your fortress.

No disaster can overtake you, no plague come near your tent; he has given his angels orders about you to guard you wherever you go.

They will carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone.

You will walk upon wild beast and adder, you will trample young lions and snakes.

'Since he clings to me I rescue him, I raise him high, since he acknowledges my name. He calls to me and I answer him: in distress I am at his side, I rescue him and bring him honour. I shall satisfy him with long life, and grant him to see my salvation.'

Magnificat 

My soul glorifies the Lord, 

my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour.

He looks on his servant in her lowliness; henceforth all ages will call me blessed.

The Almighty works marvels for me. 

Holy his name!

His mercy is from age to age, 

on those who fear him.

He puts forth his arm in strength and scatters the proud-hearted.

He casts the mighty from their thrones and raises the lowly.

He fills the starving with good things, sends the rich away empty.

He protects Israel, his servant, 

remembering his mercy, the mercy promised to our fathers, to Abraham and his sons for ever.

Proclama mi alma la grandeza del Señor, y se alegra mi espíritu en Dios, mi Salvador; porque ha puesto sus ojos en la humildad de su esclava, y por eso desde ahora todas las generaciones me llamarán bienaventurada, porque el Poderoso ha hecho obras grandes en mí: su nombre es Santo, y su misericordia llega a sus fieles de generación en generación.

Él hizo proezas con su brazo:

dispersó a los soberbios de corazón, derribó del trono a los poderosos y enalteció a los humildes, a los hambrientos los colmó de bienes y a los ricos los despidió vacíos.

Auxilió a Israel, su siervo,

acordándose de la misericordia

-como lo había prometido a nuestros padres- en favor de Abraham y su descendencia por siempre.

Magnificat anima mea Dominum,

et exultavit spiritus meus in Deo salutari meo, quia respexit humilitatem ancillae suae.

Ecce enim ex hoc beatam me dicent omnes generationes, quia fecit mihi magna qui potens est, et sanctum nomen eius, et misericordia eius ad progenie in progenies timentibus eum.

Fecit potentiam in brachio suo,

dispersit superbos mente cordis sui, deposuit potentes de sede,

et exaltavit humiles, esurientes implevit bonis, et divites dimisit inanes.

Suscepit Israel puerum suum

recordatus misericordiae suae,

sicut locutus est ad patres nostros

Abraham et semini eius in saecula.
