Mary Immaculate, Coredemptrix

Mary Immaculate, Coredemptrix

Saint Paul taught us that we are co-redeemers in our sufferings with, through and in Christ.

All the lives of saints and martyrs teach us that our sufferings are incorporated in Christ for the salvation of others. Not because Christ’s sacrifice is not enough, but because he shares his Cross with us for the salvation of the world. Then, what are we to say about Mary Immaculate? Isn’t her suffering co-redemptive? Actually, her sole Fiat brought God’s salvation to mankind, she is therefore co-redemptrix. To deny such fact would deny the piety of the Bride of Christ.

We do not need to suffer for our salvation, but as he did, we need to suffer for the redemption of others; for him who seeks to save his own life will loose it, and no one loves more than him who gives his life for the salvation of his friends.

Co-redemption is the number one commandment of God, to deny it is to deny Christ. That is why he gave us a new commandment: “love one another as I have loved you.”

Who is like God!
